Did You Know: HyTrust Appliance Community Edition can assess your entire ESX environment

Since launching the HyTrust Community three weeks ago, we have had over 200 registrations and 100 downloads of HyTrust Appliance Community Edition.  These range from small to large Fortune 100 companies, as well as consultants/integrators. We are excited by the early reception we've received in the marketplace.

As most of you know, Community Edition protects up to three VMware ESX hosts. However, as some of you may have already discovered, we intentionally left the configuration assessment capability unrestricted--essentially, with Community Edition, you have the ability to assess the configuration of your entire ESX environment (as many hosts as you want!)

Here’s how to configure Community Edition for assessment of your ESX hosts:

1. Log-in to the Community Edition GUI with your web browser or navigate to the “HyTrust” tab in the Virtual Infrastructure Client, if you have the vCenter Plugin installed.
2. Select “Hosts” from the “Hosts” menu.
3. Press the “Add” button to add a host.
4. Enter the credentials and details of the ESX host you want to add. Make sure that the “Protected” option is unselected. (If you forget this step, don’t worry... The CE license will refuse to add more than 3 protected hosts.)
5. Once you’re done adding hosts, you can select the check boxes next to the hosts you want to audit, and press “Assess”. That's it, you’re done!
